Modeling Shared Mobility Operators

Modeling Shared Mobility Operators#

Various entities make up the supply of shared mobility services in a region, including fleet operators, vehicles, and drivers. POLARIS provides a customizable implementation of shared mobility services. A non-exhaustive set of options to customize shared mobility operators include:

  • Spatially

    • One or many operators can be simulated simultaneously

    • Operational areas may overlap (leading to competition) or not overlap (leading to isolated operation)

    • Vehicles may be distributed based on focus of service

  • Temporally

    • TNC drivers sourced from the agent population opt to serve in a fleet at different points in time

    • Variable fleet sizing for autonomous fleets can be extended in a similar way (in the works)

  • Algorithmic

    • Various operational algorithms can be defined for each operator (assignment, charging, repostioning, parking, etc.)

    • Cross-use of strategies implemented is allowed

  • Demand Served & Services Offered

    • Each opearator can support one or more TNC request types

    • Pooling & vehicle sizing is specific to each operator

    • Powertrains & fuel use is controlled by a distribution across different operators
